Good to Be Making Pots

stoneware_plates

Guess who got back to work finally?  ME!

I am going to fire the salt kiln in a few weeks and I have some orders for some plates.  So I made these luncheon plates with what stoneware clay I had.  I'll be making the dinner plates when I get more clay next week.  The rest of the kiln is going to be filled with pots from friends.

Then the ole' switch a roo back to earthenware.  Nice and smooth and soft.   Ahhhhhh.

I made myself a new water bucket a while back.  I put it into use today.

And lastly, ten dinner plates and an odd serving bowl and small bowl.  It will be nice to get the feet cut on these so I can slip them and do some drawing.   Yea!!

Now time to go wire the closet lights.

You do the same thing we do; work in more than one body...
I think it's nuts, but can't stop. I wouldn't know what to give up. Blue & white porcelain? Carved earthenware? Slip-trailing? Gaaahhhh

I really hated to miss the first class on Tuesday. I look forward to catching up next week on at least part of what I missed.
I am happy to say that I made 16 tumblers while on vacation. :) Hard to stay away.
I really like the new website, except that a pic from your daily blog no longer appears on my blog. Good look though.

You sound so happy to be back to earthenware - was it hard to change from stoneware to earthenware? I'm really considering it . . . but my entire studio & chemicals & slips, glazes . . . everything is geared to ^6 right now. Oh what to do? what to do? Sounds like Barb does it all.

I have to figure out how to get the pic in my posts or whatever. Hopefully that will happen soon. Maybe I'll work on it this weekend.

Judy, it wasn't too hard to make the switch. I was ready when I did it, so there were only a few weeks that overlapped and then I just went red. I do miss making pots for the salt kiln. What I really miss is the big stack of pots in the kiln. Anyhow, I'm just making some stoneware now temporarily for this order. I can't do two kinds of work at the same time. It's just too complicated. So I'm still in earthenware mode. I think it's better to focus in one area at time for long extended periods. That's the best way to learn. Barb's blue and white work is excellent as is her earthenware, I get the feeling she has dedicated long periods to each of those areas of her work.

Thanks Ron - I agree. I will only be able to do one type of work at a time. I have two big invitational shows I'm doing this year - so maybe after I'm finished making work for those I will make the change to RED!
Your work is wonderful -- just continues to get better -- so you are an inspiration.

i read that first line as :

'guess who got ME back to work finally? Me."

which would also be true...

doesn't working always feel better than not working?
