Visiting Hal

I had supper with a bunch of friends last night over at Hal Dedmond and Corine Guseman's  house.  Hal and Corine are both local potters.  We all had a good time and I shot a few photos while I was there.  Click below to see larger images of Hal's wood kiln, the goats, Hal with the cat, and a few of Hal's pots that were sitting out on the porch.[gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="post_name"]

It was a magical gloaming. Good friends, great food, and goats. It's nice to slow down and enjoy an evening once in a while.

just how do you get in that wood kiln?
or maybe you don't.

You load that kiln from the front door by climbing in and getting someone to hand the pots in to you. The fire box is there just below the front door. The pots sit on the ware bed which extends back about 9 feet I think. I would guess it's about 6 ft wide maybe? Not sure. It's a groundhog kiln. Typical of this region of NC.

Here's some pics of the inside of the kiln. http://www.goneawaypottery.com/data/IMG_0631sized.jpg" rel="nofollow">The door, and http://www.goneawaypottery.com/data/IMG_0630sized.jpg" rel="nofollow">inside. Probably a bit claustrophobic to load, but well worth it.
