Slip Tip.

I wanted some wavey action along the bottom of this larger jar so I turned it over and slipped it on the banding wheel.  I waxed the rim so I wouldn't have to wipe all that off later.  (I've had a few people tell me they didn't know you could wax leather hard pots.  Sure you can.)  I get the waves by pouring the slip from a cup.

Here's the righted jar with it's lid.  Should have put some wavy-ness on the lid too but I didn't think of that until I was finished.  Next time.

Man, what a good day in the studio.  I have no idea how I'm gonna glaze these pots I drew on today.  Ha!  I want some color on there.  Dots would be good.  ? Or filling areas. ?  I even had this spattering idea.  Yikes.  That may be a bit adventurous, and disastrous.

Later!

Like that wave action! Thanx for the info about Tides of Man on the radio. I think they are having a great time on the tour and probably learning A LOT...

Do you have an airbrush? I saw a guy do some neat coloring with an airbrush once.. he had brushed on some glaze, then did some overspraying with his airbrush to 'dust' the color on. It turned out pretty cool. :)

Isn't it time for a tomato sandwich?

I have one of those little atomizers that you spray using your mouth. Hummm. Maybe I'll try that.

Yes! Tomato sandwich! Pics coming soon! Dukes Mayo only!

Hey Carrie,
Here are two that work well for me. This first one is on Kari Radasch's Tech page. http://kariradasch.com/technical

Pete Pinnell’s WHITE SLIP
OM4 Ball Clay- 40
Talc- 40
Silica- 10
Neph Sye- 10
_________
100

7% zircopax

* For thin dunking slip, use 10-15% zircopax
* mix this slip on the thick side because the neph sye and sodium creates a slight defloculation…wait 24 hrs before fine tuning.

This second one is what Ayumi uses:
White Slip
OM4 36.1
EPK 18.1
Neph Sy 3.8
Frit 3124 25.8
Zircopax 13.8

Both take stains well. If you are adding stain it's a good idea to test it and probably add the same amount of 3124 Frit to it too.
Example: Adding Tangerine Stain 10% then also add 10% Frit 3124

No need to do that with oxides.
