A few new pots

I fired a small load of pots yesterday.  Things went well and I got some good information.  I think I'll be happier with my surface quality  if  I thin out my slip. That way  more clay will show through.  As it is now things are a bit too sterile looking for my taste.  Still good pots though.  Also I had some plates that had areas of bare clay left and I really like that.  I made some mugs today and left the interiors bare, that will be a change in the next firing.

I have another load in the kiln that will fire off tomorrow and be out by Thursday.  I tried some black inlay in the drawn lines and went back to green and amber as my primary accent glazes.  I also thinned out the glaze a little.  Should be a whole differnt look than the above pots.  We'll see.

I love the cow mug. I must confess that your work has inspired me to try the white slip/brown clay. I love the traditional slipware that Hannah does but I cant imagine the control she has or the time spent on each piece. I love the humor in your work as well as all the possiblities!....I'll see what happens.

Like that bowl. I have enjoyed those pictures in your previous post. What's the rumour that you may be heading this way? Hope we get to see you.

These look great Ron. Is this the Batz glaze? I noticed that you fire to ^07 -- why 07? Anyway - the work is looking good!

Judy, This firing was sort of a test to see if I could get the results that we got at Penland. This is Amaco LG 10 clear glaze. We fired it at cone 07 at Penland even though it's recommended to be fired at cone 05. I think Ayumi does this to reduce crazing and so she can use those runny colored glazes. (Not entirely sure there)

Margaret, We are coming over on Aug. 6th. We are going to Art in Clay on the 7th. I will put up our itinerary soon. It would be wonderful to see you.

Hi Ron! Things are really looking good! I'm going to have to second the cow with the runny blue - that is a keeper... You talked a little in past posts about how you got the runny bits at Penland - are you using the same technique of dry dots of glaze adhered to the surface with the LG - 10? That's the glaze I use as well - it is great stuff! I''m working with a friend on a clear base though, it would be good to mix up my own eventually... Are the colored dots the Annabeth Rosen clear? I tested that one awhile back but fired it to 06 and it wasn't too happy - lots of bubbling. I wonder if 07 would make it happier? Keep up the great work!

Kip, Yes that's the same tech. for the runny glaze. It is Annabeth Clear. We fired to 07 at Penland with very good results.
