A Few Drawings

possum_3Click these thumbnails to see the full image.

Working on my drawings everyday.  I'm mainly drawing animals from black and white clipart .jpg's.  Some of the clipart are images of actual animals while others are realistic  illustrations.  Doing this is allowing me to learn more about specific animal anatomy and different postures.

I don't really want to be drawing realistic looking animals on pots.  It's just not what I'm going for.  I need to inject a bit of myself into the drawings.  It's not happening too fast, but with time it will.

I'm also putting more pattern on the pots.  Like background wall paper in a sense.  I have a few standbys but I'm looking for more.

Hopefully I'll have some pots out of the kiln by this time next week.

Your animals are awesome. Ever thought of doing shapes? Buildings? Mixing in a little slipping? Patterns on the top of the rat jar on Etsy are neat. I tend to like all your work.

Really like the drawings, Ron. BTW, the "here's an example" link above is a bum link.

And Gary, have you been listening to 3 Feet High and Rising?

Hey Ron! I first checked out your blog while you were at Penland and was not enthused w/ the feedback re: your animal drawings and working on making them more realistic. So this post makes me happy, specifically: "I don’t really want to be drawing realistic looking animals on pots. " yay!

Thanks for the honest comment Melissa. I want the drawings to be kinda quirky but not cartoony. It seems much harder for me to make these my own as opposed to just going for the more realistic illustrative approach. I'll get there in time. I hope folks will feel free to comment on the progress. That's not to say I'll be doing what others recommend, but I am interested in what others respond to, and why.
