Bowls from Tues.

I'm not completely sold on this image viewer.  For now it will do though.  Click on those (very small)  thumbnails to see the larger images.

I drew on these bowls today.  I've never spent that much time on one pot.  I did have a tiny breakthrough and that was drawing that cup and saucer on a few of them.  Basically it told me "anything goes".  Hummm. Okay, well we'll see.

I like the designs but agree with you about questioning the viewer. The thumb nail images are getting so small that it's hard to see what they are.

I like these. I can see some (positive) changes in your drawing style. Will the red stay red through the firings? It's a nice accent.

I gotta find something else. Maybe I'll figure that Simple Viewer out.

That red will burn out. I'm just using it for layout so I don't totally ruin everything.

what exactly is the pink lines? wax? We have been carving freehand and have made some pretty terrible goofs- would love some ideas on how to avoid that... Also I am curious about using commercial clear but not sure about how to go about dipping pieces- I noticed y'all used the Amaco pink clear at penland- do you have to thin it to dip? how does it compare with a make your own recipe?

Carrie, that is just watered down cheap tempra paint. It helps a lot. I use a brush to layout my ideas. It's a technique that Ayumi uses.

At Penland we glazed the same way that Ayumi does at home. It's pretty weird but it totally works for her. She bisques to cone 02. Hot right? Okay. She uses Amaco LG-10 glaze. We poured this into buckets and let it get thicker for a couple days (by evaporation). Then we dipped or poured that onto the bisque. Of course it doesn't dry fast at all since the bisque is so non porous. So we laid the pots face down on square dowel rods until the bottom half was dry then flipped them over and smoothed any thickish glaze that was on the rims. Glaze firing was to cone 07. (08 Flat, 07Soft)

{The LG-10 bottle recommends bisque to 04 and glaze firing to 05. }

I never got around to asking 'why' she does this the way she does. But it's what she finds works. I have tested LG-10 at cone 04 poured straight out of the bottle on cone 04 bisque and it seems to be okay, but I'm testing it more. (I actually have a tile in the tiny test kiln right now).

LG-10 is pretty expensive. It's certainly way cheaper to mix up your own glaze. But if this works well and doesn't craze (like most lowfire glazes that I've mixed) I may consider using the LG-10.

In general I've found that all my slips and glazes are more expensive to mix than when I was at stoneware temps. due to the frits and the stains that I'm using.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I'm gonna try to work it in there. Guess we'll see what happens, I'm not even sure what's going on at the moment. Just going w. the flow. Thanks for the feedback.

I really like the second and the forth bowl. I like the lay-out. Jen

Hi Ron I 'm loving the deco on the bowls but the viewer thing is a pain.

I'm catching up on the blogs today and everyone seems to have done so much more than me and now I'm feeling guilty for being sat at the computer today.
But I'm ever the optomist so something good is going to come out of this today I'm sure.
