Finger Wipes. Combing
Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11:17AM
I decided to do more wipes on the plates I had to slip today. This first one got decorated with finger wipes.
I then got to thinking about seeing Matt Grimmitt's pots on his latest post. I spied the comb he made from a flexible rib there at the bottom of the picture.
So I made one of my own and did a bit of practicing on a bat before carrying on to
this board of plates.

These will probably all get amber glaze. I'm excited about seeing them fired.

Love the combed plates!!
those plates are killer. i think i'm gonna rip you off later.
Thanks Anna.
Ha, that's great Brandon. I'll be looking for pics!
Yes! So smart! I altered a soft rib once so I could use it to soften a hand-built vessel's lip (one single arch cut) but I love your use as a decorative comb. Well done! The results speak for themselves...
Hey Ron, yes rubber kidney with three slightly different size sets of teeth cut out. Works a treat doesn't it, I use all three sizes equally I guess and if you aren't happy with one set you can always trim them down and make more! I can't take credit for it though, I tried alsorts of things from bits of wood to milk cartons cut up but in the end I listened to Mr Fitch and got myself a rubber kidney and never use anything else now. Your dishes look lovely, my favourite is the finger wiped one in the top pic lovely soft lines, very stylish. Cheers.
Nice ones. I think the ribbed lines look livelier.
Fingers are over rated.
;-)
Ha. Funny Michael.
Great wiped effects; I have used those premade rubber combs from the paint section which are made for texturizing paint on walls with nice results.
looks like fun... the tool on matt's table looks like he's got three different sizes in one
