Trailing is Hard
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 6:48PM
Finished up most of the pots from yesterday. I thought it would be fun to try some slip trailing so I had a go at it.

It's really difficult. Not nearly as easy as some people make it out to be.

What a coincidence, I've been thinking about playing around with some slip trailing due to inspiration from some potters in England. I guess I realized it wouldn't be too easy.
What are you using to draw your lines?
Go for it Lori. England is a good place to be looking for inspiration in this area. Esp. historic slipwares. I am using this tool

Ron, I genuinely appreciate you honestly admitting that something is hard. I find that is the case with everything I try in my pottery outside of the "groove" I've worked myself in to over the past 15 years. Just because I've done it before, doens't mean it is as easy as other potters make it look, because that is their "groove"! Your post today was a good reminder for me that it's probably time for me to try something new again...even if it's hard.
It's still not easy all the time here either but good to see what you're trying with it.
More please, more.
