K's Table

I ran across this site today called K's Table.  There are some really great images of pots and food there.  All the text is in Japanese I think and I haven't tried Google translator yet.  I'm just  enjoying the pics.  Click HERE.

I can't believe how much there was on that site to look at, what eye candy!

I've been a fan of K's Table for a long time...Google translate works pretty well with the site. They also have a blog where they post new work fairly often. Really nice stuff!!

hey ron totally off the subject again...I'm thinking of doing a test run cone 6 soda in my lil wood kiln with wood and gas, i'd like to see what effect the soda will have on the fibre if i spray the work before firing..and even try a sagar,
any thoughts on a firing profile??

Hey Ang, so you're going to spray the work with soda ash? and then fire it? Are you going to spray any soda into the kiln during the firing? If you are doing the latter it will definitely eat away at the fiber, over time it will destroy the fiber if you continue to do soda. I don't know what effects you'll get from spraying the work with soda or how detrimental that may be on the kiln fiber.

Putting the work in a sagger would help keep the fiber safe from most of the soda vapor.

As far as firing goes, I'd say fire as a regular cone 6 firing, no heavy reduction though for brightest effects on any slips or clay bodies. I fired soda in neutral atmosphere for best results. Maybe hold at the end of the firing in clean oxidizing atmosphere for 30 minutes or more.

hey ron yep spray the work before firing rather than during to keep the 'free' flying soda under control..ok the kiln has no damper i would have just covered the flue a little but since your recommending neutral I wont do that.. i think i'll make a few saggers then.. thanks

Will the soda ash meltflux with a top temp of cone 6?

I'm not sure how putting the soda ash directly on the pots will work. Here is some info from Julia Galloway's site on cone 6 soda.

Jack Doherty fires cone 6 soda and there are others too.. I have notes from Emily Murphy on dipping and pre fire spraying with soda solution, I'm just going to work my way through all these ideas and combine it with what i know about small kiln firing and will post all the results.. thanks for all your input.. I do love a challenge : P
