Cluck. Cluck. $ $

These money boxes went into the bisque today.  I just made a couple so I could find out if the holes for the stoppers in the bottoms are going to work.

It was a very busy day with appointments and errands.  I only got  a few hours in the studio.  I'm having lunch tomorrow with my clay pals, Jen, Julie and Amy and then later in the day I'm heading out for an exciting meeting.  (You'll have to wait to hear more on that.)

I have a few lobed bowls for the bisque.  Which do you like better, the cross hatch behind the subject or removing all the slip?

I hope you all had a good Monday.  The Etsy shop is getting low so I'll really, really try and get some new items listed this week.

Those chicken money boxes are adorable!
I like the background with no hatches, it makes your subject pop out :-)
Can't wait to see the Etsy updates! Save some of the good stuff for us, not just the galleries :-)

I hope you will be listing some of those chicken boxes on etsy. I think the hatchmarks distract from the image a little. The hatchmark ring at the rim is just perfect.

Definitely crosshatch. Let me know if you need any pots for the oct. Postcard.
I gave Julie a mug when she visited my studio, but if you'd like something else, let me know.

I vote no crosshatch. I like the way the figure stands out. :)

either- both- it makes the rabbit look like it could be checking out something tasty behind Mr. Philbeck's garden fence.
I think he looks like he can smell some carrots or lettuce...

I like both best. The money boxes are sweeties indeed.

I, too, vote to remove the slip. The banks are great. And I really like the lobed bowls! Great stuff, Ron.

cross-hatch

I like both backgrounds. Different, but the impact is very interesting in each case. Keep up the great work! I am such a fan of this direction you have been heading these past several months.

Would it be possible to use a cork for the hole in your money boxes? My local hardware store carries a huge selection of different sizes, so I never have to stress about making a specific sized opening when I make salt & pepper shakers, oil & vinegar cruets, or flasks. Something they have is always going to fit.

Hey ya'll, thanks for all the great feedback!! I'll post them again after they are fired. I like both. The cross hatch comes from my love of pen and ink drawings and from Medieval slipware pots I have seen ( and some Medieval majolica). The removing of all the slip is more of an English slipware technique I think. I like both. My wife Sarah says the cross hatch distracts from the image.
I like both and will probably continue to do some of each. It's good to know what you all think too.

I'm getting ready to make up lists of what I need to make for my fall shows. The banks/money boxes are going to be first on the list. I really like them and hope they are good sellers. Carter, I ended up buying some rubber stoppers that I like. Our local hardware sells a good cork selection too but I think I prefer the rubber ones.

I promise to get some pots on Etsy soon. It's turning into a busy week.

Thanks again for everyone who reads the blog and who takes time to comment. It means a lot to me and keeps me going.

the money boxes are great! i noticed that you didn't add feet... did you take my suggestion and indent the bottoms slightly to accommodate the stopper? just curious as to how you worked it out.
as for the cross hatch... i think they both work but sort of agree with sarah about the distraction... the finished work will be the deciding factor!

I love the money boxes! And I like both the crosshatch & removing the slip -- both have their own charm. Your work is so wonderful!

Michele, Thanks. I did bump them up on the bottom. I think it's gonna work great. Thanks. I'll show some pics when I get them out of the kiln.
Thanks Judy.
