Pots and Book

This book came in the mail today. Yeaaaaaa. Mary Wondrausch (according to Hannah and Doug) is the Queen of Slipware. I'm looking forward to tucking into it tonight. I've seen MW's pots online but I'm looking forward to the day I get to see some in person. I tried not to over do it today in the shop. I've only got 1/2 day tomorrow to work and then all day Friday. Sarah and I are heading to Asheville, NC on Saturday for the weekend. Much needed get away.


So a dozen mugs and plates and 6 serving bowls. Hopefully all this will be finished, slipped and decoroated before I leave on Sat. I'd like to also have some bakers under plastic waiting for me when I get home, and some jars too. So that's on the agenda for Friday.

This photo was brought back to me by my friend Fredia (third from left). Fredia lives in London part of the time and here in the big, bustling metropolis of Shelby when she's in the US. Fredia has been to Hatfield 3 or 4 years running, she's a big pottery fan.
Slipping , slipping, slipping. That's what I did today, and put some handles on mugs. Tomorrow will be a decorating spree.

When it Rains it Pours....

and then everything decides to dry out at the same time and I have to play catch up. After a week of rainy weather the sun came out for most of today. All the pots in the studio seemed to reach leatherhard at the same time and needed footing, handling, and slipping. Things got shuffled around a lot and at the end of the day most everything was slipped and ready for deco. (and back under plastic).
I had a nice text chat yesterday and today with Doug and Hannah and today was even introduced the the infamous slipware potter Paul Young. That was a treat. I also have another treat to post about but have to take some pics first, so stay tuned for that.

Several customers today which was a nice surprise and a good way to end the week. The bisque kiln is cooling so maybe I'll get some things glazed and fired next week.

Speaking of glazes my latest test was promising, so it will get a bit of further testing and maybe a small batch mixed for some cups and bowls in the next load.
