Hot Day. Cold Cider

It was hot today in the shop.

I don't think it was that hot though, this thing is at least 30 years old. But it was hot because the bisque shut off at 2pm.  I should fire it at night, but Karma sleeps in the studio and I don't want to roast her.

I did get some work done.

And I made a chicken

I ran into one of the beer distributor reps last week at the grocery.  I asked him if he could get some cider and he said his company stocked Magners.  So I ordered a case and it came today!!

Of course I had to have one when I got home.  Sure it was 11:30 am but I had to make sure it was good ya know?  It was!  And it reminded me of this time with my Sweet Wife when we were in London.

All right, so the tests should be out of the kiln tomorrow.  Looking forward to that. And  have some more small tests in the little kiln going right now.  They will have to be glazed and go in the big kiln, hopefully on Thursday.

Stay tuned.

Sunshine!

Sure the wind is howling and it's a bit cold but the Sun has been shining all day!! Hurrah!!

Honestly I've been in a poor frame of mind for almost 2 months now.  Today has been the best day I've had, all day long.

I finally got all caught up on pots I had made last week.  These little  bowls got handled and slipped today. ( I had an extra handle and didn't want it to go to waste)(Which gave me a bit of a Virginia Scotchie moment).

I made plates and mugs and serving bowls today.  Also made up some Lists for what I have coming up and need to get snapping on.

There are no pots listed on my Etsy site.  How can I expect to sell anything with an empty shop?  That will be resolved soon.

Cider Report:
The Autumn Gold from Eve's was soooo good.  Yes, it was a Tuesday night but who cares?  Sarah and I enjoyed the whole bottle last.  It looks like I'm going to be ordering a case in the next couple weeks.  We'll try the Bittersweet this weekend (if we can wait that long).

Cider

Sarah and I have had a very nice Christmas with our family and friends.  The holiday will actually continue for us as Sarah's siblings and their children come in from out of town over the weekend.

Last night Sarah and I opened the cider I had ordered from Westcott Bay Orchards.  We pretty much got hooked on cider while we were in England.  (Thanks to Paul and Marion, and Doug and Hil).  When we got back home I tried some of the so called ciders in the grocery.  YUCK!  It wasn't until I ran across this article on the web that I found out that true cider was being made by some small operations on both coasts.

The Westcott Bay Traditonal Dry was my favorite.  I'm hoping to order some bottles from Eve's Cidery in New York state this coming year.

If you're interested in the early history of apples and cider in the United States you should read the first chapter of Michael Pollan's book The Botany of Desire.

Well that's all for now.  Regular pottery related posts should resume in the coming week.
